NETWORKING DEVICES

Various types of networking devices are
·       Repeater.
·       Hub.
·       Bridge.
·       Switch.
·       Router.

Simplex a one way communication
Half duplex a two way but not at time  transferable. one and one
Full duplex a two way and simultaneously.
Hub/repeaters:
It is not an intelligent.
Half duplex communication.
It works with bits.
Uses broadcast for communication.
Band width is shared.

Now a days doesn’t use this device & in it is not available in the market.
Switch:
It is an intelligent device.
It maintains MAC address table (hardware address).
Each port of the switch has fixed bandwidth.
It works with flooding and unicast.
Supports full duplex communication.
ROUTERS:
It is an intelligent device .
It works with logical address (i.e. ip, ipx, apple talk).
It provided communication between two or more different logical network.
It works with fixed bandwidth.
It provide best path selection.
Bridge:
Bridge is used to connect two LAN segments at the Data Link Layer. Bridges can determine the physical addressed of source and destination stations involved. If the inter traffic is not too heavy, this effectively reduces traffic on each segment.
